Laser Eye Surgeon

Dr. Versace is a partner and medical director of Vision Eye Institute Bondi Junction, where he performs laser eye surgery and other refractive procedures.

He is Senior Staff Specialist Ophthalmologist at Prince of Wales Hospital and a Clinical Lecturer at University of NSW. Dr Versace also acts a consultant ophthalmologist for the Royal Australian Navy. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and a member of the Australian and American Societies of Refractive and Cataract Surgeons.

After achieving degrees in medicine and ophthalmic surgery through the University of Sydney, Dr Versace decided to focus his career as an ophthalmic surgeon in the area of laser vision correction and other refractive procedures. LASIK was just beginning to be used and Dr Versace was among the first to use this technique and contribute to its development.  He undertook higher training in refractive surgery to gain new skills and knowledge in order to be able to position himself as one of the leading refractive surgeons in Australia.

Pioneering technology and procedures

Dr Versace is a pioneer in the area of laser eye surgery and other refractive procedures. He was the first surgeon in Australia and the Asia Pacific region to perform Wavefront guided laser treatments now known as Wavefront guided LASIK. He has also been involved in many trials, including conducting the early clinical trials resulting in the introduction of the techniques now used today.

He has performed a countless number of refractive surgical procedures both laser and intraocular and he continues to be a pioneer of laser surgery for eyes, and a leader in the field. His particular interest in the area of high end intraocular lenses has seen outstanding outcomes for patients who have had cataract and other refractive surgery procedures.

As an investigator and surgical trainer for a number of refractive surgical procedures, Dr Versace has certified many surgeons in different refractive surgical techniques both in Australia and abroad. He has been a participant and invited speaker to numerous local and international conferences and has contributed to the body of scientific knowledge through authorship of textbook chapters and scientific papers.
