Refractive Surgery Options

Three standard eye correction surgeries include LASIK, IntraLase as well as Photorefractive Keratectomy or PRK surgery.

LASIK is a 2step vision correction treatment that has been quite successful in treating myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. The advantages. The treatment of LASIK surgery is performed under local anaesthesia (eye drops). The first task in LASIKeye surgery, creating the flap, requires about 30 seconds for each eye, while the second step, reshaping the cornea, will take around 15 seconds. There is no pain during LASIK surgery. Many people love better vision, with no eyeglasses, within a few hours after LASIK.

The Procedure:

The corneal flap is generated using the microkeratome. The flap is subsequently folded back so the excimer laser can reshape your cornea. The speed and precision with the Allegretto (excimer) Laser makes it possible for very small quantities of tissue (one hundred times slimmer than the usual human hair) to be removed, reshaping the cornea. The flap is next meticulously repositioned exactly where it seals naturally with no stitches required. Your entire LASIK treatment is done utilising anaesthetic eye drops along with a moderate oral sedative.

The IntraLase Laser is the initial step in IntraLase eye laser treatment and is utilised to create a flap without the usage of a blade.

The Benefits:

A blade-free method of developing the corneal flap that has replaced the microkeratome (a mechanical device that uses a metal blade). Formation of the flap simply takes around 30 seconds per eye. It’s safer, far more exact and delivers much better outcomes.

Photorefractive Keratectomy:

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK) uses the excimer laser to change the shape of the cornea. PRK is aeye laser treatment method of which doesn’t involve making a corneal flap. However, it will take longer for the eye to recover and there is more discomfort than with a LASIK procedure. The drawback: Some patients are not well suited for LASIK and require a different treatment to improve their vision. A very thin or inappropriately shaped cornea can indicate patients are not fit for lasik surgery .

The PRK Procedure:

The surface cells from the cornea are taken out and the frontal surface on the cornea is reshaped to improve the refractive error. The soft contact lens bandage is positioned on the cornea to help the process of recovery. Regrowth of the corneal area usually takes 3 to 4 days. As with LASIK, the treatment is performed using anaesthetic eye drops and a mild oral sedative.
